Daily life is quieter, more predictable, and more personal.
At Just Like Home, routines feel natural, not institutional. The six residents wake up at their leisure, typically between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. There are always two caregivers on duty. We do not wake them at 6:30 a.m., as most large facilities do, because breakfast is served promptly at 8:00 a.m. and everyone must be in the dining room. Our residents wake up on their own, get showered with our help, get dressed in their nicest outfits with their hair styled, and eat breakfast that they love. After breakfast, they are taken to the bathroom, then the activities begin — whether it is chair yoga, bird bingo, balloon toss, Bananagrams, karaoke, or another favorite, we love to engage the residents in joyful pursuits. In the afternoons, we often have musicians who lead sing-alongs. Perhaps a walk or time out on the deck in the backyard. We have a happy hour with appetizers and juice. Everything is family-style — meals are shared, as well as the joy. On Sundays, family members are welcome to join us for high tea, complete with china tea sets, finger foods, and special sweets.
Doctors come to us: medical doctors, psychiatrists, podiatrists, cardiologists — not to mention hairdressers! There are no required outings, and no need for families to bring their loved ones to appointments.
We manage all medication, as our staff is med-certified with the state and the Department of Public Health. We provide all meals, laundry, bedding, furnishings, and more. Just bring your loved one and their clothes and move right in.
Across Fairfield County, New Haven Counties, and The Valley, more families are exploring this model as an alternative to traditional facilities. Just Like Home, LLC is a huge advocate for small homes for people with dementia. We are the only two homes at present in the state of Connecticut. Come see the difference for your loved one.
